Mindful Monday Minute: Body Scan

scan.jpg

This is one of my favorite mindful practices. The Body Scan is designed to help you feel & bring awareness to the myriad of sensations that occur throughout your body. By practicing this meditation regularly, you can improve your body awareness. This also works with discovering & releasing pain & difficult emotions in the body. Most people report feelings of relaxation & renewal after this practice.

difficult emotions in the body. Additionally, people report feelings of relaxation and
renewal after this practice.
Whenever you come across an area that is tense, see if you can allow it to soften by breathing into the area & releasing the tension with each exhale.
If the area does not soften, simply notice how it feels & allow it to be as it is.
Feel as deeply & precisely as you can into each region of the body, noting if the
sensations change in any way & noticing where they are located.
If you notice any pain or discomfort in a region of the body, see if you can practice
allowing & exploring it for even a few seconds, feeling the various aspects of
the sensation(s).

Also try this quick mindful body scan today:

Choose a time during your day to take three breaths, each breath to ‘scan’ one area of the body.
1st breath: scan the head, representing thoughts.
2nd breath: the gut, representing “gut feelings.”
3rd breath: the heart, representing values or intentions.

Reflection Question
What information do you receive when checking in with your body?
